Organisation
Octapharma Australia was established in 2004 through the supply of Octagam® in response to the high demand for IVIg nationally. There has been no shortage of IVIg in Australia since then, enabling adequate treatment for many patients with life threatening conditions. Octapharma also assisted the National Blood Authority to ensure security of supply for FVIII/vWF in 2007, when supplies came very close to not meeting demand.
We also aim to supply innovative products to Australian patients which are not currently available, and have registered so far 6 products with the Therapeutic Goods Administration, with a view to obtaining funding through the National Blood Agreement, so that physicians and their patients can access these innovative therapies.
In 2005, Octapharma's plasma for transfusion, Octaplas®, was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, and in early 2006, Octanate® (human coagulation Factor VIII/vWF) was also approved. These were followed by TGA registrations for Wilate® (FVIII/vWF), Pronativ® (FII, FX, FVII, FIX) and Gammanorm® (SCIg).
A long term mission is to advocate the benefits of competition for patients, health care professionals and government, by providing alternative plasma products that are innovative, meet the highest standards and are price competitive. This will provide patient choice in a market traditionally dominated by a monopoly supplier.
