Summary

The "Norwegian Plasma Fractionation Project" began on the 1st of April 1988 and has been successfully running for the past 15 years.

This project involves the collection of plasma from Norwegian blood centres, delivery to Octapharma's manufacturing facilities in Vienna, the production of plasma derivatives and virus inactivated plasma for transfusion and finally, return of the products to Norway.

Over these 15 years, Octapharma has collected 7,000 shipments (750,000Kg) of plasma in Norway. 900 batches of various products have been produced. The final products have been distributed by Octapharma from the central storage facilities in Oslo to more than 70 hospitals country-wide in 15,000 different shipments.

Total product consumption equates to more than 750,000 treatment dosages of Octapharma products over the 15 year history.

Octapharma products have significantly improved the quality of life for thousands of patients in Norway during the last 15 years.
  • Around 200 haemophiliacs are treated with Octapharma products every year
  • Waiting-lists for elective surgery in haemophiliacs have disappeared
  • The haemophilia treatment regimen changed dramatically and has now reached a level of high European standard
  • The emergency stock of plasma products increased from zero to six months consumption.

These considerable achievements have occurred thanks to Octapharma´s secure production of state-of-the-art, high yield plasma products.
