Octapharma Supports Plasma Quality Training
Octapharma´s 5th Plasma Quality Programme (PQP), held from September 16th-18th in Beirut, Lebanon, was successfully completed by 30 leading pharmacists and clinical haematologists from the Middle East.

The PQP concept was developed by Octapharma in 2001 with the aim of providing a continuous medical education programme on plasma quality and safety issues for clinical pharmacists from Saudi Arabia.
The three day course is held twice a year and is designed to equip delegates with the necessary information to make informed choices about the selection and appropriate clinical use of blood and plasma products in their day-to-day working environment.
The programme covers:
- Plasma sourcing
- Donor and donation testing
- Plasma fractionation
- Pathogen inactivation techniques
- Quality assurance & quality control of plasma derivatives
- Worldwide regulation and registration of plasma derivatives
Delegates also participate in interactive workshops in which they define the quality and safety differentiation criteria for key plasma derivative products such as coagulation factor concentrates and intravenous immunoglobulins.
The course includes ample time for questions, answers and discussion, which enabled participants to share their experience with speakers, peers and colleagues. In this way, knowledge and concerns can be aired and shared and Octapharma participants learn a great deal more about the key issues and needs of their local clients.

Such has been the success of PQP, it is now in it´s third year and is attracting top level speakers and delegates encompassing many specialities from all over the Middle East. The programme´s value has also been recognised by the Saudi Council for Health Specialities who have accredited PQP with 13 hours of Continuous Medical Education (CME) points.
Early feedback, from the 5th PQP meeting has once again been extremely positive. Amongst comments received on the meeting evaluation survey:
"Very professional, competent and interesting, most enjoyable"
Octapharma would like to thank and congratulate all those who participated in the 5th PQP event and whose presence contributed to its success. We look forward to welcoming new and return delegates to future meetings on plasma quality and safety. For more information about PQP please click here.
