Octapharma Prepares to Meet the Needs of American Pharmacists
Octapharma USA, a new subsidiary of the Octapharma group, enthusiastically made their first public appearance at the recent American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. In anticipation of the registration of Octagam, Octapharma´s leading liquid intravenous immunoglobulin, by the FDA in 2004, this major pharmacy meeting allowed the subsidiary to demonstrate Octapharma’s world-wide role in the production of plasma-derived products. The American Octapharma team reported several hundred visits from people to their exhibit, resulting in stimulating discussions with representatives from all segments of the country.
The Midyear Meeting featured presentations & posters on such topics as management case studies, medication safety, ambulatory and chronic care networking, information technology, and others. Additionally, there were workshops, a strategy session for state legislative volunteers, a clinical skills competition, a forum for VA pharmacists, and sessions especially for students.

In addition, the meeting also afforded an opportunity for several side meetings with delegates, fostering burgeoning relationships through in-depth conversations of how Octapharma USA will endeavour to meet their changing needs. David Hirsch, General Manager for Octapharma USA Inc says: “The ASHP mid-year meeting confirmed:
1) there is a high awareness of Octapharma and its products in the U.S., and 2) there is an extremely high degree of interest in Octagam and a lot of anticipation for when it is approved and available for sale in the U.S.”
