International Launch of Octaplex at the ISICEM Congress

The International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (ISICEM), held every year in March, in Brussels, is established as one of the largest congresses in its field and attracts more than 4,800 participants from countries world-wide.

Octapharma has participated in the ISICEM congress for the last 6 years. This year Octapharma will have a 40 m2 exhibition space at ISICEM (Booth number 148-151 in Hall 6). On this occasion we will have the international launch of Octaplex, Octapharma's state-of-the-art human prothrombin complex concentrate. Octaplex is now registered in Germany, Portugal , Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxemburg, Spain and Sweden. During the exhibition, we will introduce the product platform: Octaplex - Replacing What's Required - fast onset of action with high tolerability, and offer information and engaging conversation to the delegates about this product and the entire intensive care product line: ATenativ, Octaplas and Albumin.

In addition, an interactive website www.dicsepsis.org will be online at our booth. The website, which is sponsored by Octapharma, is designed for physicians to build knowledge and engage in dialogue in the complex field of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and ultimately to achieve better patient outcomes. Clinicians have the opportunity to sign up as members.

For any other information concerning the ISICEM congress and the exhibition, please visit the ISICEM website www.intensive.org. We Look forward to seeing you in Brussels! (Please note that clicking on the above links will take you outside of the Octapharma web site)

About Octaplex

Octaplex contains the four coagulation factors, II, VII, IX and X in a ratio close to 1:1:1:1, as well as the inhibitor, protein C, and its cofactor protein S. Octaplex is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of bleeding and hereditary or acquired coagulation defects resulting from isolated prothrombin complex factor deficiency or combined with prothrombin complex deficiency.

The efficacy and safety of Octaplex has been demonstrated in both congenital and acquired coagulation factor deficiencies. In the clinical trials, not only the recovery but also the half-life of the measured factors lay within the normal range. Thrombotic events, historically reported in connection with the use of prothrombin complex concentrates (PCC) have not been reported with Octaplex. Furthermore, seroconversions and immunogenic reactions have not occurred. Octaplex effectively stopped bleeding. The mean dosages used in the clinical trials for achieving clear efficacy, and the number of treatment days necessary for completion of treatment, were both in the lower ranges of those normally required for the treatment of such patients.

Virus inactivation is achieved with Solvent/Detergent treatment - the gold standard for the rapid and highly effective inactivation of lipid coated viruses. Non enveloped viruses are also efficiently reduced by nanofiltration. Together, the in vitro characterisation, the virus validation studies and the clinical studies have revealed Octaplex to be a safe and efficacious PCC preparation. Added heparin and traces of ATIII contribute further to the safety of Octaplex against thrombosis by preventing factor activation on reconstitution.
