Octapharma to Sponsor Symposium at ISBT Congress, Sept 2-7, in Cape Town, South Africa
The most important international congress in the field of blood transfusion, ISBT, will be held this year in the Cape Town, South Africa at the foot of the famous Table Mountain. The scientific program is expected to highlight particular challenges for developing nations in maintaining safe and reliable blood transfusion services, in particular, challenges faced by the African continent .
Octapharma will sponsor a lunchtime satellite symposium on Sept 5th and participate in the exhibition with a 36sqm booth (number 45). Delegates will be invited to join us on the booth for a challenging quiz and the opportunity to learn more about Octaplas, our pharmaceutically licensed, proven alternative to fresh frozen plasma.
The lunchtime satellite symposium, FFP or Biopharmaceutical Plasma - A Real Therapeutic Dilemma? will consider the pros and cons for the two types of products, and will include presentations that explore factors affecting efficacy, pathogen safety, adverse events, and tolerability . Information concerning the production of FFP and biopharmaceutical plasma along with evidence from clinical studies and haemocovigilance data will be presented. The particular case of Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) will contribute to the discussion on adverse events, while, a look at the option to use universal plasma and its potential benefits will be explored as well.
