June 18th, 2007 Octapharma Exhibitor & Symposium Sponsor at ISBT Congress, June 23- 27, Madrid For the first time, the ISBT congress, the most important international congress in the field of blood transfusion, will be held in Madrid, the capital of Spain. It has been jointly organized with SETS, the Sociedad Espanola de Transfusion Sanguinea. The scientific program is expected to cover the area of transfusion medicine from a global point of view. Given the complexity of transfusion medicine as well as the numerous links with biology and other fields of medicine, it is not easy to include all subjects but the two committees have done a great job in covering most areas.
Octapharma is presenting two new product brochures: “Let’s discuss about Octaplas®”, which covers the same scientific arguments as in the past but from a new angle and a “Reference Booklet”, where you will find the most relevant references and summaries of scientific articles concerning Octaplas® or related issues. “Let’s discuss about Octaplas®”, aims to clearly emphasize the main advantages of our product, i.e., safety and quality: Safety not only related to viral inactivation, since today viral inactivation is not the main life-threatening complication of plasma transfusion, but from the most deathly adverse event of plasma transfusion: TRALI. Since the launch of Octaplas®, no confirmed case of TRALI has been reported following its use. Quality because Octaplas® is the only available plasma alternative which offers a standardized content in coagulation factors which are present in a haemostatic balance and because it is the only pharmaceutical approved plasma substitute which is obliged to fulfill Pharmacopoeia and product release specifications. At our lunchtime symposium entitled “360° around solvent-detergent” we will review solvent-detergent plasma from all angles. We will show data on haemovigilance as well as covering the topic of adverse events related to plasma transfusion with a special focus on TRALI.
