Unicooler LD9 |
At the end of September Octapharma sent temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products with the first Unicooler LD9 airfreight container to USA, supported by DHL Global Forwarding and Lufthansa Cargo. The Unicooler is a state-of-the-art airfreight container produced by DoKaSch G.m.b.H. (Germany) and certified for temperature sensitive airfreight shipments by TÜV and EASA. This shipment from Vienna to Chicago represents the worldwide first commercial use of a Unicooler LD9 for Octapharma and the first commercial shipment of such a container into the USA.
The Unicooler LD9 is characterized by dry ice cooling with permanent air circulation combined with an accumulator-powered heating technology for ambient temperatures of minus 30°C to plus 50°C. This ensures that the chosen temperature is maintained even during extreme weather conditions in summer or winter. Furthermore, the Unicooler LD9 enables the electronic recording of all relevant data and processes: internal/ambient temperatures, system start/stop, opening of doors during operating time and status of battery charge.
The Octapharma business partners DHL, Lufthansa Cargo and DoKaSch supervised the loading of the first container at Vienna International Airport with lively interest. Dr. Nicholas Jacobson, General Manager and COO at Octapharma stated: “Octapharma always strives to develop and use the latest state-of-the-art processes and products. This certainly includes the employment of such innovative products as the Unicooler LD9. This airfreight container gives assurance for maintaining the appropriate temperature conditions during the shipment of Octapharma`s life saving products.”
