“Optimization of the use of blood components within the hospital: Strategies and Trends”
June 8, 2008 12:15 13:45h
Blood components are scarce products, which are used, in many life-threatening conditions. Blood component audits and surveys have shown that blood components are not always used as indicated. This symposium will focus on the guidelines, audit strategies, awareness on appropriate use of blood component and through alternative therapies which can eventually results in better outcomes for the patients. The speakers will explain how blood component audits can be setup and how such strategies will help in optimizing the use of blood components in a hospital.
“Prion safety and Transfusion Plasma”
June 11, 2008 12:45 13:45h
Since the first cases of vCJD were reported, major concerns were raised on the possible transmission of the disease through infusion of plasma. This has lead some regulatory authorities to enforce special measures to reduce the load of prions in all biopharmaceutical plasma derived products, including biopharmaceutical approved solvent-detergent treated (octaplas®) plasma for transfusion. This symposium will focus on these concerns and discuss the actual risk of prions in plasma and explain the implementation of a prion reduction step for a licensed solvent-detergent treated plasma like octaplas®
We look forward to seeing you at our booth #149 and at our two symposia
