Applicable codes of practice
Octapharma subscribes to the following codes of practice for our marketing activities:
IFPMA code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices: "The IFPMA Code was adopted by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations in 1981. In addition to setting out universal principles for ethical marketing conduct, the IFPMA Code is intended to provide an operational Code to be used in countries other than those in which a more demanding national Code operates. The Code was revised in 1994, and provisions, as an Addendum, on the use of the Internet were adopted in January 2000."
Addendum 1 of the Code states: "The IFPMA recognizes that certain uses of the Internet may fall within the scope of the IFPMA Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices. The following points concern product-related information.
- The identity of the pharmaceutical company and of the intended audience should be readily apparent.
- The content should be appropriate for the intended audience.
- Links should be appropriate and apparent to the intended audience.
- Country-specific information must comply with local requirements.
ABPI Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry 2001(clause 21): The ABPI says that promotional material concerning prescription medicines may not be legally advertised to the general public. However, as per clause 21.5, "European public assessment reports, summaries of product characteristics and package leaflets for [prescription] medicines ... may be included on the Internet and be accessible by members of the public provided that they are not presented in such a way as to be promotional in nature." The Octapharma website provides general information and product characteristics on the website. However, Octapharma makes no claims which could be considered promotional in nature. Octapharma is not responsible for users who interpret the information beyond our stated intention. While the site is not intended for the general public, we do not employ passwords systems to prevent access as these usually produce a false sense of security or prevent the intended audience from viewing the website.
Privacy
Octapharma reserves the right to use information gathered from users of the website for various statistical calculations and website analysis. Any personal information submitted by users of the website will be considered private and will not be used for these purposes. Specific enquiries are used in our customer service function.
