Octapharma AG - PCR Engineer- Sofia Borg

All incoming plasma that will be used in the production is first screened for potential virus contamination using PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing.

My work as a laboratory engineer mainly consists of PCR testing for viruses such as HIV, hepatitis, and parvovirus B19. I pipette solutions and run instruments and robots and I am also the safety officer at my department.

A friend of mine who already worked for the company gave me a tip about the need for additional employees in the PCR department. Since it seemed like a perfect workplace with my educational background (Master of Science in Molecular Biotechnology) and my future goals, I immediately sent in my application.

For me it feels good to work at a company that helps to cure and provide a better life to a lot of people all around the world!
