Octapharma is presenting two scientific symposia on Immune Tolerance Induction in Haemophilia A and von Willebrand Disease at World Federation of Haemophilia World Congress 2012 in Paris
05.07.2012Octapharma AG announces the sponsorship of two scientific symposia during the 2012 World Congress of World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) held in Paris from July 8 -12, 2012.
Octapharma is a leading producer of human proteins for life saving therapies in coagulation disorders. With wilate® for von Willebrand Disease therapy and octanate® for Haemophilia A treatment, the company provides two state-of-the-art coagulation factor products to improve lifelong replacement therapies.
On Tuesday, July 10th, 12.30 – 2.00 pm, Octapharma’s symposium will be the premier forum for the presentation and discussion of evidence-based data highlighting experience and knowledge in the field of haemophilia A and the current findings from ongoing studies in patients with FVIII inhibitors and previously untreated patients (PUPs). The special symposium is entitled
“Personalising the Inhibitor Treatment and Prevention: New Pieces to an Old Puzzle”. The session is chaired by Manuel Carcao, Canada and Yves Gruel, France.
The breakfast symposium ”Meeting the Challenges of VWD Diagnosis and Treatment – Which problems have we solved?” on Wednesday, 11th of July, 7.00 – 8.30 am, gives a practical update on important aspects of diagnosis and treatment of von Willebrand Disease (VWD). Results from clinical trials and practical experiences such as surgeries in VWD, diagnosing and treating paediatric patients, individual pharmacokinetics and secondary prophylaxis in VWD will be discussed. The session is given by renowned experts in the subject and chaired by John Pasi, UK.
About octanate®
octanate® is a human plasma‑derived, high‑purity, freeze‑dried, double virus‑inactivated FVIII concentrate for intravenous administration. Coagulation FVIII present in octanate® is bound to its natural stabiliser, von Willebrand factor (VWF), in a VWF/FVIII ratio of approximately 0.4. Therefore, no additional stabilisers are required during manufacturing. octanate® is used in the treatment of bleeding in patients with all types of haemophilia A. octanate® is available in 250 IU, 500 IU and 1000 IU presentations. octanate® was first launched in Germany in 1998 and has since been approved in 79 countries. Since launch a total of approximately 5.2 billion IU octanate® have been distributed worldwide.
About wilate®
wilate® is the first double‑virus‑inactivated VWF/FVIII, high‑purity concentrate, utilising the solvent/detergent (S/D) process and Permaheat - a special terminal dry‑heating (TDH) step. The selected purification processes isolate the VWF/FVIII complex under highly protein‑protecting conditions, resulting in a 1:1 ratio of VWF:RCo (ristocetin cofactor) to FVIII activity that is similar to normal plasma. wilate® contains a VWF triplet structure and content of high‑molecular‑weight multimers similar to normal human plasma. Acknowledging the superior viral safety profile, US-FDA recently granted orphan drug status to wilate®. The product is registered in more than 50 countries worldwide, including most EU countries, the US, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Russia.
