Octapharma is a privately owned company that specialises in the development, manufacture and sale of high-quality human proteins derived from human plasma for use as pharmaceuticals and medical treatments. Its mission is "for the safe and optimal use of human proteins".

Since its foundation in 1983, Octapharma has become one of the key players in the European plasma market. Today, the company has more than 4,000 employees in over 27 countries, is active in over 80 countries around the world, and is continuously expanding. The Octapharma head office is based in Lachen, Switzerland. Vienna, Austria, is home to one of the company’s high-tech production plants as well as the Plasma Quality Control & Assurance departments and the International Market Access and International Drug Regulatory Affairs Groups. The core of the Plasma Research & Development Group is located in Vienna with additional laboratories in Germany, while Recombinant Research and Development centres are located in Munich, Germany, and Stockholm, Sweden. Additional manufacturing facilities are located in France, Sweden, Germany and Mexico.
